[Waking up unceremoniously in Luceti with no idea of where she is and what she is doing there is of course a disorienting experience. Anya finds herself out on the beach, lying prone on the sand. It could be Sunnydale, except the area she's been deposited in doesn't have much surrounding it besides sand and blue skies.

Her back hurts, and by the time she sits herself up and reaches back there...] Wings? Is this a joke?

[Some more time passes with her half-ranting to herself, trying to get oriented and squinting at the placement of the sun. She almost misses the fact that the journal is there completely, save when she finally starts to walk and nearly trips over the thing, half buried in the sand.]

[Accidental voice]

- Ow! I have sand in places that I don't want to think about, there's no sign of anyone - what is this, a book? I don't even get a pair of shoes, or even suntan lotion, I just get a lousy book? [She turns the journal over in her hands, pages rustling, her image still not visible, though there's the sound of the ocean's waves in the background.] ... my name is on this book. This just entered a new level of creepy.

I've never heard of a ninja who took a day off. Is it like breaking a rule?

No, because ninja are only working when they receive missions. It's a job, like a florist or a baker or something.

I guess there's not much of that to go around here then. Doesn't it suck?

I enjoy days off since, at home, I don't get them often. I'm usually training from around four in the morning to six thirty at night, with lunch breaks and dinner breaks in between. Of course, we train five days a week unless we're going on a mission, but Gai-sensei encourages us to train everyday. [ go train erryday. ]

... That's a lot of training. [Although technically, the Slayers-in-training had a pretty hefty schedule too.] And you do this for free?

No...? Missions pay and reimburse ninja in return for their service to a community. It's not uncommon for successful ninjas to have enough money to rival any and all politicians.

That sounds promising.

It's a good career choice! There's always a demand for more of us since supply is never consistent... [ She says the last part a tad nervously. Death, you know, kinda renders a ninja useless. ]

Not a lot of recruiting going on? Or... you tend to lose a lot?

We get plenty of recruits, we just get plenty of deaths too. [ being a ninja isn't exactly a very safe career. ] Very few ninja see past the age of thirty, and even that's a recent development.

Probably not. A lot of ninja are too confident to ever think they'll die. [ This statement actually kinda hurts Tenten a little bit, since, as she's been recently informed, her teammate died. There's a dulled, hollowness to her voice near the end of the sentence that wasn't there previously. ]

Of course. Because they're ninja, right? That doesn't make them immortal or immune to tiring or eventual weakening if you're all just normal humans.

Well, some of us aren't exactly normal. I mean, one ninja I've ...encountered [ and killed. ] is some weird combination of man and venus fly trap. But, I've learned that most that brag about their immortality just means that they're very hard to kill. [ Yeah. Tenten's world is weird. ]

Most are like that. They'll get more in tune with their bragging and let their guard down eventually.

I've tend to noticed the phrase, "You can't defeat me!" always results in a loss on whoever just proclaimed their undefeatability.

It goes to their heads. They don't even see it coming.

Exactly! This one guy claimed immortality, but it turned out he just had multiple hearts and I had to kill them all. Then he boasted about his skills once I figured this out, and then I was able to just keep the pain coming. [ when all you have is a legendary fan that can counter any element..... ]

I fight, but I don't have much power to back it up with these days. It's not impressive when you've lived in a house with two slayers, a witch, and an army of potentials.

Yeah, feeling overshadowed is always sort of a struggle. It's hard for me because I'm a on a team with a person from the most powerful clan in our village, our teacher is a legendary ninja who is teaching our techniques to our other teammate. But, still, they've all taught me that I'm tough enough to stand on ground with them so don't feel that way. You were supposed to live in that house for a reason. [ Hopefully that reason isn't for protection and thus, ruins the entire argument. ]

Buffy wanted everyone under one roof. [And then she had the audacity to turn around and say that Anya was only there for protection when it hadn't entirely been her decision, but that was something else.] We were holing up to fight the first evil. Or at least it's army. Kinda what I was in the middle of doing before ... well, coming here.

[She just doesn't know how it ended up working out for her yet.]

[ wait until Tenten hears that and then some weave snatching will.... probably not be going on. ]

So, you're fighting evil too!? That's cool! What type of abilities do you have?

Normal, boring, human ones. I'm good with weapons? [It's way too early to go into revealing the whole ex-demon thing. Especially without knowing much about Luceti just yet.]
